KDUZ Pet Patrol – May 27th | KDUZ

2022-05-27 23:45:56 By : Ms. Maggie QI

Every week we will introduce you to some of the most adorable, adoptable pets available from our partner shelters Heart of Minnesota Animal Shelter, Tri-County Humane Society, Pet Haven of MN, Hawk Creek Animal Shelter, Underdog Rescue, MN, Heartland Animal Rescue Team, Midwest Animal Rescue & Services and Ruff Start Rescue. Join us Fridays as we introduce them to you on Classic Hits KDUZ.

Heart of Minnesota Animal Center – Sawyer

Sawyer is a handsome hunk of love! This guy was found as a stray outside of town, and though his listing received a lot of publicity, no one came to claim him. We don’t know a whole lot about him. His age is estimated to be around 5 years old with no health concerns.  He keeps a clean kennel at the shelter, and he passed his dog test with flying colors. When Sawyer is overstimulated, he sometimes tries to mount humans and other dogs. He will benefit from LOTS of exercise and mental stimulation. Sawyer walks well on a leash with our volunteers and enjoys getting lots of fresh air in the play yards.

He’s a big boy weighing in at 94 pounds, so he may be a bit too much for small children, until his energy can be redirected into training.

Ruff Start Dog & Cat Rescue – Dean

I noticed you noticing me… I also noticed that you have a lap that needs cuddles. Have no fear, I am here! I’m Dean, and I am a 3-month-old male American Staffordshire Terrier and Beagle mix. It just so happens I’m an A+ cuddler reporting for duty.

I am smart and very treat motivated. I get along with my three canine foster brothers – they are all Labrador Retrievers and much bigger than me, but they’re teaching me how to carry a stick. I’m getting the hang of it, so be prepared to be impressed with my stick carrying skills. I also know how to go potty outside but am working on perfecting that one!

Hawk Creek Animal Shelter – Nikka

Hiya, my name is Nikka. They call me the Happy House Hippo!

I am 2 years old and a Pit bull mix. I am a big dog but believe I’m a small lap dog. I am quite the puller on the leash, so I will need some training with that. Cats are not my thing so please don’t have one in your house. Dogs are okay but I may need some time to warm up to them. I need a family that will take the time to show me the ropes of being the best pup out there.

Midwest Animal Rescue & Services (MARS) – Dalton

Helm, aka Dalton is a smart boy that does very well with a routine. He is silly, playful and exuberant. While he is very cuddly, he also can be independent and enjoy lounging on the couch by himself.

Dalton is high energy and loves playtime. He is a total shadow puppy and can be a bit pushy, but it is clear that he was never taught manners prior to rescue.  He can be very mouthy during play and herd nip while you walk from room to room. Unfortunately, as much as his adoptive family adores him, he has proven to not want feline roommates. For their safety Dalton is coming back into rescue.

This charmer is on the hunt for a new home! He took his time warming up to shelter staff but is now sweet as can be! Has met dogs in the past and done well with slow, supervised introductions, though he may not be ready for the dog park quite yet!

He was described as being a lap dog and will follow you around the house. Has lived with cats and done well with them, and is used to having children in the home but can be overwhelmed by them at times. A home with older children or children who can respect his boundaries may be ideal.

Gaston is crate trained and is used to being kenneled while his people are away. He also uses his kennel as a safe retreat when left open. He loves to curl up in bed with his people at night if allowed. He would benefit from having a fenced in yard where he can run and burn off any excess energy. He does okay while walking on a leash but tends to pull when he gets excited. He loves to play and his favorite toys include ones that crinkle, squeak or wobble!

Underdog Pet Rescue of MN – Colbie

Hello, my name is Colbie. I am a very happy, playful, and brave female Shar Pei/Beagle puppy with the most beautiful velvet fur! I would like to be with you all the time because I love my people!  If I am left alone in a room and the door is closed, I will give the door a bonk to let you know that you forgot to bring me with you!  However, if I’m in the same room with my people I have no problem entertaining myself especially when my entertainment includes trotting my evening laps around the house!

My favorite pastimes include getting kisses from my foster mom, chewing on things yummy things like like ice cubes, sticks in the backyard, tossing my stuffed animals in the air, getting belly rubs, playing with my fur sibs, and getting on the bed so I can walk all over foster mom and the other pups who are sleeping under the blankets! Hee, hee!! That outa teach ‘em to go to bed without me!! Speaking of going to bed, I know what “kennel/crate” means and if I must sleep in there, I will do so soundly but not before my 5-minute protest session. I mean seriously if YOU get to sleep in the bed why can’t I?? I think that’s a fair and very simple question!!

I have not met any kids or cats but I’m good with other dogs.  I’m not an overly vocal girl but I admit that, in addition to my kennel protests, I may yell if I’m left alone, if my fur sibs are yellin’, or I need to go outside. Additionally, mom says that I make the silliest noises when I play with my sibs. I could use more leash practice, but I am mostly potty trained…however, I do test mom sometimes to see how quickly she can get to the door LOL!

Pet Haven of Minnesota – Taz

Taz is a handsome 11-year-old shy guy looking for his forever home. He is a beautiful black and white long-haired cat with white mittens and a charming thin mustache (think John Waters). Poor Taz lived his entire life with one owner who had to surrender him due to health issues, so he took a while to feel comfortable in his foster home. His new forever home will need to have the patience to let Taz come out of his shell and be mindful of his body language.

Taz spends a lot of the day napping in his favorite spots. He likes to hang out and watch TV. He loves to play and sometimes will meow to ask for you to play with him. His favorite is a long wand toy. He gets fed twice a day and gets an afternoon snack to take his fluoxetine. He spends a lot of the day lounging and napping in secluded or covered places like closets or in his carrier. At night when everyone has gone to bed, he will hang out on the cat tree.

Taz lives with two adults (one works from home) and one resident cat in a house. Taz and the resident cat tolerate each other but do not especially enjoy each other’s company. Taz does not display good cat social etiquette, so he is likely to stress out other cats. Interested in adopting or learning more about Taz?
